Our Men Under 19 competition: Europe versus the United States ?

We are happy to present our main competition, Men Under 19.

12 teams will compete during our three days event. For the first time, we will have two teams from the United States participating in this event. Northfield Mount Hermon is the first one.

The Northfield Mount Hermon boys’ basketball team plays in the prestigious New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) AAA, considered the premier prep conference in the nation. Over the past 10 years, NMH has sent more than 50 players to Division I college programs and others have gone on to great collegiate careers at Division II and Division III levels.

NMH is considered the best combination of academics and basketball in the United States. In 2015-2016, NMH had 11 players in the Ivy League, which is over three times more than any other school in the nation, with players at Princeton University, Yale University, Brown University, Dartmouth College, the University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard University.

The Cooper International Academy is our second team from the States.

Cooper International Academy is a college preparatory program that bridges the transitional gap between secondary and higher education for student athletes.  Their comprehensive process focuses on the student’s academic, athletic and inter-personal developmental goals to ensure a higher level of success in college and in life. An overview of the players that went through the Academy and play in NBA or college can be found on their webpage. (http://cooperacademy.org/former-players.html)

Cooper Academy is located in Pomona, California.

Of course, we are also looking forward to the participation of the European teams. The Canarias Basketball Academy is back after some years; These former finalist is a basketball institute based in Tenerife, on the Canary Islands.

The team usually participates in the Euroleague junior tournaments. It also takes part in different tournaments in the USA such as the MaxPreps Tournament, the Hoop Group Under Armour and the Adidas Nations.

Or, is the danger coming from Stellazzura Roma, a traditional participant ? This Italian academy has the ambition to win the tournament, and could be a tough opponent for everybody.

Difficult to asses the ambitions of the Israel Basketball Academy. Last year, they showed up with a very young team, so we guess that they will be stronger this year, and take their place at the top. Almost every year, they are a team to watch out for !

What to say about our friends from the Belgrade Basketball Association ? This selection of the better players from the clubs of Belgrade is a traditional top competitor. Former winners and runners up at several occasions, they will for sure aim at the highest price.

Or, is the danger coming from the North ? Apollo Amsterdam and Den Helder Suns are by far the best what the Netherlands have to offer in this age group. These teams are the main providers of players for the Dutch national team Men Under 18, that promoted last summer to the European A-group, after a convincing win of the B-championship. Maybe they will surprise everybody.

We should, of course, not forget the Belgian participants ! Limburg United, Basket@Sea Oostende and Antwerp Giants  are former winners of this competition. Even last year, we had a final between Limburg United and Basket@Sea Oostende ! The fourth Belgian team AWBB Top Sport School, a basketball academy in the Southern part of the country, gathers a nice bunch of talent and could also aim high.

Unfortunately, we could only accept 12 teams. We couldn’t offer a place to teams such as London United, Atletas Kaunas, Badalona, Den Bosch or the Get Better Academy Prague (and several others). We will do our best to increase the number of participants in 2019.

We start on December 28th at 9.00 hours in Venue Lange Munte in Kortrijk, and we will know the winner on December 30th around 17hr !
